There is an appealing history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which casino gambling is not legal. Eight casinos are situated in a generally small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect location, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; although, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes needed to cross, there are means around this, as is true of most borders.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort.
