There is an appealing background to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling hall betting is illegal. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively tiny location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent location, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; although, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are apparently needed to pass, there are means around this, as is correct of many border crossings.
The initial Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling hall, features 150 slot machines and sixty table games. The Naga gambling hall is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel complex that highlights many amenities accompanying the casino, which offers ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 table games.
