There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which casino gambling is not legal. Eight gambling halls are situated in a relatively tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent area, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; still, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 1700, and although visas are supposedly needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge gambling hall, contains 150 one armed bandits and sixty gaming tables. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six table games, including eighty seven punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the normal table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel compound that features numerous luxuries aside from the casino, which contains 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 table games.
