There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia casinos that sit just across the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is not legal. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent destination, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; still, funding sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are allegedly necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is true of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat casino, features 150 one armed bandits and sixty table games. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred one armed bandits and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel compound that features a number of amenities aside from the casino, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight table games.
