There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is banned. Eight casinos are established in a generally small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent destination, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; although, funding sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are supposedly necessary to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is real of most border crossings.
The first Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling hall, contains 150 slot machines and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel compound that highlights many comforts accompanying the gambling hall, which contains 10,000 square feet of 130 slots and eighty eight tables.
